We're All In This Together

In 2010, I was watching a PBS special about social entrepreneurship, and something in my bones solidified. It was what I wanted to do. I knew it immediately. Then the words Little Hearth sprang up in my mind. I embroidered a scrap of cloth with those words and used charcoal thread to stitch an iron stove beside them. I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.

I already was a mother. We had two children, too soon for some folks' liking. My husband was in graduate school. I was studying religion as an aimless baccalaureate student who had just found her passion. He was studying politics. We had all the taboos covered.

It was December when I watched that show, and something shifted. Little Hearth rang in my ears every second of every day. What would it be? I still wonder what it will be. The following year, another shift came, which eventually led to the writing and publishing of Fierce Solidarity, a book whose impact was immediately noticeable and overwhelming, but is just beginning to take root. When I decided on self-publishing to preserve the simple nature of the book, Little Hearth was the only imprint I considered.

So, Little Hearth currently serves as my indie publishing platform. Since I've recently been picked up by a publisher, Little Hearth will be evolving. I'm excited to see what it will become. What I know for sure about Little Hearth is listed below in the Why Little Hearth? section. I hope you'll stick around and watch this thing evolve with me.

Why Little Hearth?
Here at Little Hearth, we're all about tending to our hearth: that inner spark of the divine or of the truly humane. When we tend to our inner hearth we are creating an environment within ourselves that is ripe for growth, compassion, and kindness.

We do this because one of the pathways to global wellness is through the physical and spiritual wellness of the individual. Strong, good people make a good strong world. We're here predominantly to support spiritual wellness, especially to those who feel they don't fit well in religious communities. The fire is always burning here.  Pull up a seat and join the discussion. We want to hear your story.
